Nordlys Standing Desk Pro

4.5/5Rated 4.5 out of 5

Four months at this desk, two of them shared with a 34-inch monitor and a very heavy printer. It moved every day and never once wobbled, which is the whole job.

Review

The Nordlys Pro is the standing desk to buy if you are done buying standing desks. The frame is the quiet kind of overbuilt, the motor is fast without being loud, and the four memory presets mean nobody in the house has to think about it. It costs more than the flat-pack competition and takes an hour to assemble properly, and both are worth it.

Pros
  • Rock steady at every height
  • Fast, quiet dual motors
  • Four memory presets on a clean keypad
Cons
  • Assembly takes a full hour and two people
  • Cable tray is sold separately

45 minutes of real runtime

Measured on carpet with the brush head on, not the number on the box.

45-minute runtime

Enough for the whole house on one charge, with the brush head spinning the whole way.

Tangle-free brush

Long hair rolls off the comb bar instead of winding round it. We never cut a single strand loose.

One-latch bin

Point it at the trash, pull the latch, done. Nothing to reach into.

Wall dock charging

Hang it up and it charges. The tools live on the dock too, so they are where you left them.

Under 3 kg

Light enough to do the stairs and the ceiling corners without switching hands.

Show pros, cons and more

We ran the S7 as the only vacuum in a three-bedroom house with two dogs for six weeks. It handled hair, grit and a toddler’s cereal habit without a second pass, the bin empties with one latch, and the wall dock means it is always charged. The upright went to the garage in week two and has not come back.

Pros
  • Genuinely replaces a corded upright
  • Brush head shrugs off pet hair
  • Quiet enough to run during a call
Cons
  • Max mode drains the battery in 12 minutes
  • No spare battery in the box

Review

The Brewmaster is the kettle we reach for first. A full 1.7 liters goes from cold to a rolling boil in under three minutes, the lid opens with one thumb, and it is quiet enough that you notice it has finished rather than that it is running. The brushed steel wipes clean and the base stays cool. After eight weeks it still looks new.

  • Fast, quiet boil
  • Wide lid is easy to fill and clean
  • Cool-touch base and handle
Cons
  • No temperature presets for tea

Sharp wide open, and light enough to forget

The everyday prime that earns its place on the camera

Thirty-five millimetres is the focal length most of us actually see in, and the Lumen makes a strong case for leaving it on. It is sharp at f/1.8 across the frame, focuses silently and fast enough for children and dogs, and at 310 grams it disappears on a small body. The corners soften a touch at the widest aperture and the hood is plastic, and neither stopped us using it for a month straight.

Pros
  • Sharp from f/1.8
  • Silent, quick autofocus
  • Light and weather-sealed
Cons
  • Plastic hood
  • Corners soften wide open

The R2 maps a whole floor on its first run and then just gets on with it. It found its way under the sofa, around the dog bowl and back to the dock every day for a month, and the bin held a week of hair before it asked for help. It is not the quietest robot we have tested and it cannot climb a thick rug, but for a hard-floor home it is the one we would buy.

Pros and Cons Box

The short version

What works

  • Brass body, not plated zinc
  • Cartridge is a standard size
  • Ten year warranty, honoured

What does not

  • Marks easily around the spout
  • No flow restrictor supplied

Worth it if you are keeping the house. If you are selling within a year, fit the cheaper one.
